New Delhi (PTI): A group of ABVP activists on Thursday went on a rampage at Delhi University, vandalising the venue of a seminar in protest against presence of SAR Geelani, acquitted in the Parliament attack case, and spat on him.
Around 50 youths damaged property and hurled abuses on Geelani at the seminar on ‘Communalism, Fascism and Democracy Rhetoric and Reality’, disrupting the programme briefly.
Shouting slogans, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’, the student activists indulged in violence at the venue for about an hour even as over a dozen policemen present there remained mute spectators.
I am not writing this post to extend my apology to Prof Geelani for being a Hindu by birth for the shame I am submerged with after the display of persecution he is being subjected to by what we know as the Hindutvis. I need not apologise to Geelani or extend sympathy for they who spit on Geelani should know, the world is spitting on them, every body they are associated with and every thing they stand for-spit for.
“Guru Bhrahma Guru Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwara” goes the shloka we were taught in school. It was a Hindu value that was taught. It means Guru is God. But what did ‘they’ become when they grow up? They spit on the Guru. Where did the 5000 year old Hindu value go? I wonder don’t these people go back home to a parents or other elderly people? Don’t they find it difficult to look at their parent’s eyes after having done such shameless act. Won’t the parent of this pink shirt wearing guy who spat on Geelani watch it on TV? What would they say?
The feeling of disgust doesn’t stop at the footages of the spitting. On ‘Times Now’, Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami was seen talking to both Geelani and the ABVP president Nupur Sharma. Arnab opened his statement by asking Ms. Sharma if she’d like to apologise to Geelani on national TV. Ms. Sharma gave a look of disgust and said, “I am not going to apologize, what for?”
For the next 5 min she was seen yelling uncontrollably pointing out absolute non-sensical facts such as – there were students from other university like JNU who asked DU student to leave, as what? they (JNUites) shouldn’t be here (DU) [from no non Marathi in Mumbai to no JNUite in DU]; ABVP is not youth wing of BJP but an organization that is directly under RSS; the spitting happened before I was there; ABVP was not the only party which protested [so they have company]
None of the useless facts made any sense to the one question Arnab kept asking, “what is your stand on the despicible mode of displaying protest”
The woman didn’t take any stand, she kept on saying like a maniac, that Geelani has been accused on technical grounds and not given a clean chit. Anybody who saw the show tonight could tell she was an outright freak show, she made faces, sounds and what not, Arnab had to again and again remind her that there are other people on the show.
Finally the woman said “I’ll take a stand”, and she went on record saying on national television, “the whole country should spit on him. Who invited him to come to this university and talk about terrorism.”
That’s right with no sense of remorse or shame that woman used the word ‘spit‘. The whole country should spit on Prof SAR Geelani is the message ABVP President gave out today on national television.
It cannot get any worse than this. Their ugly faces has been exposed by their own mis-deeds. The day is not too far when they would all meet the same fate that Hitler met. Like Geelani, I too still have faith in the country’s secular democracy. Evil has never won over good and it never would.
Yes, I totally agree with Ms Sharma, the whole country should spit on that Idiot Geelani. Shame on you for taking different stand!

I am glad that someone has condemned this shameless act ,from a shameless person with shameless ideologies, openly here in a blog.Like u ,i too was shocked to see that short little drama created by Mrs Nupur sharma on NDTV.i don’t know whether Mr. Geelani is indeed a person rightly accused of being associated with the parliament attack nor do i want to know.In any case,he has already been acquitted by the court for lack of evidence long ago.But whatever be the truth, in a democratic country like ours it is really a pain to see such a despicable act from a student! Respect for values and morality seem to have no meaning for either the actual person responsible for the act and this so called president of ABVP.Its really shocking that how can one justify his/her opposition for something by mere spitting instead of committing himself to peaceful protests.More than myself ,i think Mr. arnav goswami did’nt seem to believe what he was hearing.Inspite of his constant appeals the lady resorted fully to theatrics and made a mockery of our democratic principles in front of the whole nation! As rightly said by you it really seems appalling whether these people do have any respect for their own parents or not! the situation is deteriorating more than ever in our country.that’s the least i can say.

@Jay I no longer have anything to hold against less of an animal like you. People like you would soon perish.
@Arnab – Yes our country is actually going to the dogs.. all of a sudden everything around us is falling bit by bit… but I try not to lose hope. I am sure there are many more voices like yours and mine…we’d have to condemn such acts of vandalism whenever we can..

I saw newshour on Times now hosted by Arnab Goswami. The facts or the things which were pointed by Nupur sharma seemed logical to me.and she wasnt creating drama there she was just presenting her views a lot better than Geelani who was just going about saying “this was fascism” and nothing else.He could have been more clearer to the public on what grounds he was let off by the Supreme court. Was he not realy the culprit??? We should know this thing that police reached the main accused in the parliamnet case Afzal Guru through geelani only.and i AM ALSO READy TO SPIT ON HIS FACE…

This blog post looks more politically motivated.
Geelani is a terrorist and cannot have the freedom to speak as a hero anywhere. Also, he was expert on terrorism, so why was he called to speak at the seminar ?
This was a deliberate attempt to provoke the student community by goons of SFI and AISA.
What ABVP did should have been done by each and every citizen of India….
Wake up India!!!!

So the latest news is that BJP defended ABVP’s protest but said it should have been more ‘hygenic’ and that they’d take action against the guy who was ‘unhygenic’.
I mean can you believe it guys…more hygenic?????
But at least they admitted it was NOT done. But ABVP stays unapologetic, why won’t they, now they can’t lick their own spit can they?

SEEMA the problem with people like you is that you dont leave any opportunity to condemn activities of right wing organizations bcoz it makes u people look like more secular. What ABVP has done was right keeping in mind who the person was…Geelani is a terrorist .He was the man through which the police reached other conspirators of the Parliament attack. And that culd be the reason 4 anyone spitting on him.
and 4 u SANJUKTA what do u want more from Bjp.They have condemned spitting and “by being more Hygienic” they obviously meant avoiding the same during the protest.Obviously u cant ask them to change their position after reading ur absurd views.

@All who SUPPORT this act
let me ask you all,if u think geelani is a terrorist then why did the court acquit him after serving him a death sentence? Geelani was charged only on the basis of a mere telephonic conversation, the contents of which didn’t prove enough ultimately to charge him. But before that he has been through enough harassment and torture. The police and the media is a master of making a scapegoat out of an ordinary person.Whatever be the actual truth you can’t just jump to conclusions about a person’s identity without absolute facts or evidence.else,u might just end up on the wrong side as has happened in the aarushi talwar case.
And last but not the least, being secular has been characteristic of we indians right from the beginning. Its another thing that congress is wrongfully going for minority appeasement which many of us don’t support. But i still can’t fathom how can one think of spitting at someone in protest!? the day when the majority thinks the same way, we will no longer be a civilised nation, officially!

@Arnab: Hey, I have been looking at sending you few lines! Firstly, why do you anchors cream into microphone? Do you forget that you have a mic attached?:)
Secondly, why dont you give an opportunity to all the speakers whom you have called, a chance to speak their points clean and clearly without your endless interruptions? If you have time constraints, you could tell them before hand to limit themselves to that time slot!—-this way, we could hear Ms.Sharma speaking more normally instead of getting frustrated with your interruptions :)—just a thought.Perhaps then we wouldnt have many of these posts commenting on histrionics of Ms.Sharma.
Thirdly and most importantly, of all people, you should be aware Arnab, that this is more complex than jsut someone spitting on a person acquitted from terrorism charges. Ever wondered why we are the targets of terrorism? Benefit of doubt.Afzal was pardoned!!!!!Why dont you call the respective people who let him out and question them?Parliament-stands for our democracy and secularism and all that you speak of highly….somebody tries to bomb it and you let that person go!!!!Now, lets have the statistics from you on how many terrorists have been given the maximum sentence for their crimes….and also, how many organizations which fund and raise terrorists have been banned or taken into appropriate action?
Why am I talking randomly? Youth is frustrated. Parents might be thinking what country have we given to our youth that they are frustrated …with non-transparent system, ever opportunistic media and endless time taken by the judiciary……let alone corruption and crime.
This is the country where rapists get away with sheer money and power…I wonder what would you ask the Goa minister whose son was a rapist? I wonder what would you ask the minister who made Scarlett’s case look like a joke to her mother?….why dont we actually question those who need to be questioned SERIOUSLY…?Was raping a minor any better than spitting on Geelani?
I am not here to support the ABVP student action. I am not a hindu fanatic….but lets not have double standards….we have professors who were charged for terrorism!!Would you send your child to study under him Mr.Goswami? I would want to witness that…:)….
Lets comedown with this hypocrisy of trying to be non-hypocrite,but all your actions are every bit opposite to what you say….LETS STOP THESE CRAPPY HIGH TALKS AND start behaving more transparently towards ourselves, if not for anyone or this country…
It sounds easy to say that lets handle one issue at a time when all you do is run news for 24hrs with so many things happening simultaneously…..that means, time and patience of youth are tested so much….
Lets not hurry in making statements..like you have said in an earlier post…..and lets all stop behaving like we are the caretakers of morals and ethics in this country, when we dont care a bit after shutting down the systems at the end of the day….
God bless to all those who have negative feelings(even those in the name of secularism or INDIAN values) and blessed are those with positive feelings……. :)
