Ouch. These incorrigible people who make art. They say things as it needs to be said with such subtlety, heart and humour.
The 2017 Golden Globes were full of anti-Donald Trump jokes comments by stars including host Jimmy Fallon, Meryl Streep and Hugh Laurie. (Jimmy Fallon, Meryl Streep Slam Trump at 2017 Golden Globes – Us Weekly)
“Game of Thrones is nominated tonight, how great is that? The show has so many plot twists and chalky moments, a lot of people have wondered what it would’ve been like if King Joffrey had lived. Well in 12 days, we’re gonna find out.” ~Jimmy Falon
“I suppose it’s made more amazing by the fact that I’ll be able to say I won this at the last ever Golden Globes… I don’t mean to be gloomy, it’s just that it has the words ‘Hollywood,’ ‘Foreign’ and ‘Press’ in the title. I just don’t know…I also think to some Republicans, even the word ‘association’ is slightly sketchy…I accept the honor on behalf of psychopathic billionaires everywhere.” ~Hugh Laurie
“And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.” ~Meryl Streep
Interestingly, Meryl Streep didn’t change the opening line of her speech after Hugh already said that thing about Hollywood being full of ‘foreigners’. She mentioned Hugh, picked it up from where he left and ran with it. That was rather generous of her to acknowledge.

Laurie won his 3rd Golden Globe for his bone chilling performance as the villain Richard Roper in The Night Manager. The Night Manager was a major winner among TV shows with both Olivia Colman and Tom Hiddleston winning in the respective category as Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor in TV movie or mini series. This was a significant win for Laurie winning it in a villain role adding depth and versatility to his career, lest people call him a one show wonder in US and a comedy star in UK.
This has been speculated enough but the answer should be clear if you have seen The Night Manger, Olivia Colman should really be the next James Bond. She wasn’t there to receive the award. Hiddleston started his speech mentioning Laurie yet for some reason internet is breaking over how Laurie didn’t shake hands with Hiddleston. The tomfuckery of it all.
