I was invited as a Panelist for the panel on Fake News, Trolling and Censorship at the Netizens For Democracy Conclave at Mumbai on 19 Jan, 2018

It was a wonderful experience to be a part of the Netizens For Democracy Conclave as a panelist on censorship, fake news and trolling moderated by award winning journalist Arfa Khanum. On the panel with me were other star journos and activists Umar Khalid, Abhisar Sharma, Gurmehar Kaur and Preeti Menon.

On the stage

I am thankful to veteran activist Teesta Setalvad for inviting me to be part of the event, where I also met eminent personalities like Shashi Tharoor, Rajdeep Sardesai, Nandita Das, Prashant Bhushan, among others.

Moderator Arfa Khanum asked a specific question, how do I deal with the severe trolling I face on Twitter. My reply was that having been on Twitter for over 10 years, I have seen how the platform evolved from a casual fun place to a political war zone. Today, I am aware that all the hate I get, the body shaming, slut shaming, insults to my family, are not about me, but about them who cannot tolerate my political views. They would call me ugly even if I was as pretty as Aishwarya Rai. Secondly, I have no fear because I have nothing to lose. I don’t have a full time job they can take away, no money, no fear no shame. There was a great round of applause when I finished speaking.
